Denton’s twin-university character (UNT and TWU) gives it a college-town warmth that’s rare in DFW — walkable, music-forward, patio-heavy, and full of the kind of young families who’ve traded suburban acreage for downtown character. Frenchies fit the vibe: small, portable, patio-appropriate.
Denton’s downtown square is one of the last genuinely walkable Frenchie corridors in DFW, and its neighborhoods still have mature tree cover the newer suburbs south have lost. Owners here tend to be either graduate students, young families, or long-tenure Denton locals — all groups where a Frenchie is the right fit.
Walkable; patio culture; university-adjacent.
Active-adult community; quieter Frenchie ownership.
The heat isn't the killer people warn about — the humidity is. From late May through September, Frenchies do their real activity at dawn or after 7 p.m. The middle of the day is for AC and calm indoor training. Winters are gentle but include the occasional cold snap; a fleece and a shorter walk are usually enough.
Humidity is the enemy. Even 80°F with high humidity is dangerous. Dawn walks only; carry water; watch for heavy panting.
Great walking months. 30 minutes twice a day. Beware sudden warm days that spike the heat index.
