Why We Exist
We started IHeartFrenchies because families in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico kept asking us the same question: "How do I know this breeder is legitimate?" They'd seen backyard operations masquerading as reputable programs. They'd encountered websites with stock photos and no health records. They'd lost deposits to breeders who disappeared.
We decided to build something different—not another classifieds site where anyone with a litter can post, but a curated directory where every breeder earns their listing through documentation, transparency, and proven commitment to the breed.
How We Vet Every Breeder
Before a breeder appears on our site, they complete a multi-stage verification process. We start with business documentation: kennel licenses, tax ID verification, and confirmation of physical location. No P.O. boxes. No anonymous listings. We visit breeders whenever possible, and when distance prevents in-person verification, we conduct video tours of facilities.
Health testing forms the core of our standards. At minimum, breeders must provide OFA cardiac clearances and patella evaluations for breeding stock. We prioritize breeders who go further—those conducting CERF eye examinations, BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) screenings, and comprehensive DNA color panels to avoid breeding for extreme or unhealthy traits.
We verify that breeding dogs live in appropriate conditions, that litters are raised with early neurological stimulation protocols, and that puppies receive veterinary examination before placement. We review contracts, health guarantees, and return policies. Breeders who refuse to take back dogs they produce, at any age and for any reason, don't make it onto our platform.
Our Six-Tier Verification System
Not all responsible breeders operate at the same level, and we believe families deserve clarity about these differences. Our tier system—New, Trusted, Verified, Health Certified, Elite, and Hall of Fame—reflects increasing levels of documentation, health testing, breeding experience, and community reputation.
New breeders have completed basic verification but haven't yet established a track record on our platform. Health Certified breeders provide comprehensive testing on all breeding stock. Elite breeders demonstrate multi-generational health data and participate in breed health research. Hall of Fame status recognizes breeders who've maintained exceptional standards for years while actively improving the breed.
This system lets families make informed decisions based on their priorities and budget. A Health Certified breeder in Oklahoma City with three years of documented litters might be perfect for a family seeking a well-bred companion. An Elite breeder in Houston with championship lines and extensive genetic testing serves families with different goals.
What We Refuse to Compromise
We will never charge breeders for better placement or featured listings. Every breeder appears based on merit, not payment tier. We will never allow anonymous or pseudonymous listings—real names, real locations, real documentation. We will never permit breeders who ship puppies sight unseen to buyers they've never met or spoken with.
We reject breeders who produce exotic colors linked to health problems, who breed dogs without health clearances, or who maintain breeding programs that prioritize profit over animal welfare. We remove breeders who accumulate complaints about sick puppies, misrepresented dogs, or unethical business practices.
We're not interested in becoming the largest directory. We're interested in being the most trustworthy one.
Why We're Not a Classifieds Site
Classifieds sites operate on volume. They profit when anyone—responsible breeder or backyard operator—pays to post a listing. Their business model depends on not asking hard questions about health testing, breeding practices, or facility conditions.
We operate differently. Our research team in Dallas reviews documentation, contacts veterinarians, checks references, and investigates complaints. This work takes time. It limits how quickly we can add new breeders. It means we sometimes tell applicants no.
We're comfortable with that trade-off. Families using our directory deserve to know that someone verified the breeder's claims before they drive to Albuquerque or Tulsa to meet a puppy.
Our Commitment to You
When you search our directory, you're seeing breeders who documented their standards, opened their programs to scrutiny, and agreed to ongoing accountability. You're seeing the tier they earned, the health testing they perform, and the real experiences families have shared. No smoke and mirrors. No paid promotions disguised as recommendations.
That's our commitment, and we don't compromise on it.
