Why Photography Standards Matter
Every family searching for a French Bulldog puppy deserves to see exactly what they're considering—no surprises, no guesswork, no heavily filtered glamour shots that hide reality. Photography on IHeartFrenchies isn't about making puppies look adoptable. They're already adorable. It's about accuracy, transparency, and giving families the visual information they need to make confident decisions from hundreds of miles away.
We hold every breeder listing to the same photography standard, whether you're a New breeder in Oklahoma City or a Hall of Fame breeder in Austin. These requirements protect families, support ethical breeders, and maintain the integrity of every profile on our platform.
Required Photo Angles
Every puppy listing must include five core angles:
Full-body profile shot — puppy standing on all fours, photographed from the side. This shows body proportion, topline, leg structure, and overall build. Families and breeders evaluating structure need to see the whole dog, not just the face.
Front-facing headshot — direct eye contact with the camera, face fully visible. This captures facial expression, eye placement, nose roll, and head shape. It's often the photo families connect with emotionally, and it needs to be clear and honest.
Three-quarter turn — puppy angled roughly 45 degrees from the camera. This reveals depth, chest width, and how features translate in a natural stance. It's the angle most families see first when they meet a puppy in person.
Playtime candid — puppy in motion or engaged with a toy, person, or littermate. Movement reveals personality and temperament in ways posed shots cannot. Families want to see energy level, confidence, and how a puppy interacts with its world.
Parent photos — both dam and sire when possible, at minimum the dam. Families deserve to see the adult dogs producing the puppies they're considering. Parent photos should follow the same standards: clear, well-lit, full-body and headshot views.
Background and Lighting Standards
Clean, neutral backgrounds keep the focus on the puppy. We don't require professional studio setups, but we do require backgrounds free of clutter, laundry piles, visual chaos, or distracting patterns. A clean blanket, neutral floor, outdoor grass, or simple wall works well.
Natural lighting produces the most accurate color and detail. Outdoor shade, window light, or open doorways provide soft, even illumination. Avoid direct overhead sunlight that creates harsh shadows, and avoid dim indoor lighting that requires heavy flash. If supplemental lighting is necessary, diffused sources work better than direct flash, which flattens features and distorts color.
Photos should accurately represent color, structure, and size. No heavy filters, no contrast adjustments that obscure true coat color, no angles that misrepresent proportion. Families relying on photos to evaluate rare colors or confirm DNA panel results need images that reflect reality.
Video Expectations
Every listing should include at least one video between 10 and 30 seconds. Video captures movement, gait, breathing sounds, and behavior in ways still photos cannot—especially important for a brachycephalic breed where BOAS screening and respiratory health matter.
Videos should show the puppy in motion: walking, playing, exploring, or interacting. Natural settings work better than staged performances. Families want to hear normal breathing, see typical energy, and watch how a puppy moves across a room or yard. Shaky phone videos shot in good light are more valuable than perfectly edited clips that hide real behavior.

Certified Photography Badge Program
Later this year, we're launching a Certified Photography badge for breeders who consistently meet or exceed these standards across all listings. Profiles with the badge signal to families that every photo and video has been reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Certification will require submission of sample photos across all required angles, adherence to lighting and background standards, and video submissions showing natural puppy behavior. Breeders in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma who've demonstrated commitment to transparency and comprehensive health testing—OFA cardiac, patellas, CERF, BOAS evaluation, and full DNA color panels—will be prioritized during the initial rollout.
