What is a Fluffy French Bulldog?
The long-coat (L) allele has existed in French Bulldogs since the early 20th century but was historically hidden as carriers. Modern DNA testing brought it to visibility, and Fluffies are now among the breed’s most requested variants.
A French Bulldog in every other respect — same body, same temperament — but with a distinctly longer, softer coat, especially around the ears, chest, and legs.
The DNA behind the color
Two copies of the recessive long-coat allele produce the fluffy phenotype. A single copy (L/l) is a hidden carrier.
Both parents must carry the L allele. Two carriers produce approximately 25% fluffy puppies.
