What is a Brindle French Bulldog?
Brindle was the original French Bulldog color when the breed was standardized. Early 20th-century breed clubs described "true" Frenchies as brindle, and pied and fawn were later additions to the standard.
A fawn base coat overlaid with dark vertical striping that can range from subtle "reverse brindle" (mostly light) to heavy "black brindle" (mostly dark).
The DNA behind the color
Brindle is produced by the brindle allele at the K locus, which requires an underlying agouti (ay) base to express.
At least one parent must carry kbr. Brindle × Brindle can produce a range of brindle intensities depending on modifier genes.
