How to Verify a French Bulldog Breeder

Step 1: Ask for the health-testing PDFs (not summaries)

Request the Embark or Wisdom Panel PDF for both parents, the OFA hip radiograph, the patella grade, cardiac clearance date, and CAER eye exam. Real breeders send these within minutes. If you get "summaries," "certificates," or a runaround, stop.

Step 2: Call the breeder’s veterinarian

Ask for the vet’s name and phone number, then call independently. Confirm the breeder is an active client, that their dogs are seen regularly, and that health testing has been done. A real vet will confirm the relationship (they can’t share medical detail without permission, but they can confirm the relationship).

Step 3: Do a live video call with the puppy and dam

The single best fraud filter available. On the call, ask the breeder to hold the puppy near the dam. Photos can be stolen. Live video of a specific puppy with its mother cannot.

Step 4: Read the contract end-to-end

Health guarantee terms (minimum one year, hereditary and congenital). Lifetime return clause. Deposit terms. Refund and replacement policy. If any of that is missing, don’t sign.

Step 5: Ask for three past-buyer references

Call one. Ask about the puppy’s health, communication after purchase, and whether they’d buy again. Real breeders have referenceable buyers. Sellers don’t.

Step 6: Trust your gut

If you feel pressured, rushed, or brushed off — walk away. There is no shortage of great breeders in Texas.
